DRYHEAD RANCH is a personal experience.
It is genuine, real, authentic, peaceful, and very remote.

The man that said "THE OUTSIDE OF A HORSE IS GOOD FOR THE INSIDE OF A MAN" said it like it is.

Your problems and worries of life will soon fade as the challenges of "fresh air",
"open spaces" and "feelings of living the western dream" fill your mind.
We are more than a dude ranch.
We are an authentic working cattle ranch.

Fetch your boots and your hat for a vacation of a life time.

Visit us at the DRYHEAD RANCH!

The Dryhead Ranch is a working cattle and horse ranch owned and operated by the Bassett family for the last 46 years. Dryhead Ranch was homesteaded as a ranch in 1898 and has a rich 100 year history of cowboys and cows coming to the Dryhead area to graze each spring. Five hundred years before that several Indian tribes roamed the Pryor Mountains and used our historic Buffalo jump to kill enough buffalo so they could feed and clothe their tribe. We have many teepee rings scattered around the ranch where the Indian families made their home and came to hunted. The Dryhead Ranch is an authentic Montana working ranch located on the eastern slopes of the Pryor Mountains, south of Billings. Montana. The Dryhead country takes in some of the Crow Indian Reservation as well as the Big Horn Recreation Area. We drive through the Wild Mustang refuge where the oldest Spanish mustangs still run free. Our ranch is remote and unique in the western atmosphere we share with each of you as our guests who come to participate in a life changing, real cowboy adventure. Our cattle drives, in the spring, bring our 800 head of black angus cows and calves 50 miles north out of Wyoming, along the foothills of the Pryor Mountain, to the Dryhead meadows in Montana to spend the summer months grazing and growing their calves. Our guests can participate in all of the ranch work from trailing cows, branding calves, weaning calves, moving horses, weaning colts and riding on a horse drive. We are not a dude ranch. We ride in wide open pastures and canyons and mountains. We encourage our guests to get off the trails and ride out in the open where a horse and a rider can feel the creations God made especially for Montana. Our horse cavvy offers well trained cow horses for our guests to ride so they can experience the partnership created when a horse and a rider work together to accomplish real ranch work. Iris and Jennifer, Jake and Jess and girls, Jackie and staff welcome you to the ranch and look forward to sharing a hands on cowboy adventure with you when you visit the Dryhead Ranch.
